Ian A Thain (Co-Chair, Audit Sub-Committee)
Ian is a private consultant in New Zealand, specializing in geothermal and renewable energy technologies. He is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer, and a Fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK). Ian has spent all his working life in the electric power generating industry, initially in commercial nuclear power stations in England and Scotland, and for the last 25 years in the geothermal industry. After emigrating to New Zealand in 1975 he joined the New Zealand Electricity Department and was involved in the operation and maintenance of the thermal and geothermal power stations. Ian was Manager of the Wairakei and Ohaaki Geothermal Power Plants (1987–1993) and Geothermal Group Technical Manager (1993-1996) until he left to form his own energy consultancy company. He was a founding member of IGA and a member of its first Board of Directors. Later he was elected IGA Board Secretary (1995-1998) and Vice President (1998–2001). He was President of the New Zealand Geothermal Association from 1992 until 1998. Ian served on the WGC 2000 Organising Committee as Chairman of the Audit Sub-Committee.
