Jim is well known in the international geothermal community. He is the retired (1995) former President of GeothermEx, a private consultancy company undertaking geothermal exploration, development and management, which he founded in 1972. He was born in New York (USA) and graduated with a Master degree in geology in 1956, then joined the US Geological Survey and later the California State Division of Mines, before founding GeothermEx. Jim was a founding member of the International Geothermal Association and has served on its Board of Directors (1989-1995, 1999-present). He is also a member of the Geothermal Resources Council (1973-present) and served as its President (1989-1991). Jim served on the Organising Committees for the WGC 1995 and WGC 2000; both times as Chairman of the Finance Sub-Committee.
