Orhan is Mechanical Engineer and geothermal expert, founder and President of the company ORME Geothermal Inc./Turkey. He is working on geothermal applications (heating etc.) since 1973. He has worked in General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration between the years 1973 –1983. He has attended geothermal trainings in Kyushu University in Japan and in USA. Has represented Turkey in CENTO (NATO/CCMS) in geothermal commission (only 5 representatives from the world), United Nations (UNITAR/UNDP) and International Energy Agency. He was Vice Chairman of the State Planning Organisation 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th Five Year Development Plan Geothermal Comissions. Some of the firstly realised geothermal applications by Orhan Mertoğlu are; geothermal power generation by 0.5 MWe Pilot Plant Design in Kızıldere, Gönen Geothermal District Heating System and feasibility study of geothermal CO2 and dry ice production system integrated to Kızıldere Geothermal Power Plant. Mr. Orhan Mertoğlu presented 169 Scientific papers in international and local conferences. Received Incentive Award from Turkish Scientific & Technical Research Institution (TUBITAK) in 1983. The company ORME Geothermal Inc. has realized the engineering design of nearly 300.000 residences equivalency geothermal district heating in Turkey and 39 geothermal facilities are operational. He was the European Branch Chairman of IGA-International Geothermal Association (Italy) and Director of Board of GRC-Geothermal Resources Council (USA) between the years 1999-2001. He is entitled as “Honorary Professor” by Oradea University (Romania) in 5 May 2001 due to his valuable contributions to the international geothermal developments in the recent years. Also, a Certificate of Merit was given to him at 7 September 2002 by Thessaloniki-Aristotle University due to his contributions to the geothermal development in the world. Orhan Mertoglu is still the President of Turkish Geothermal Association (Turkey), Ad-Hoc Vice President of IGA-International Geothermal Association (Italy), Vice President of EGEC-European Geothermal Energy Council (Belgium), Vice President of WGC2005-World Geothermal Congress 2005 and President of WGC2005 Turkish Organising Committee.
