Short Courses

Short Courses will be held before and after the Congress, if there is sufficient interest, and will be presented by internationally recognised experts.

1.  POWER GENERATION (2-day Pre-conference Course)

This Course will cover the characteristics of geothermal resources, field development (well characteristics, deviated holes etc.), decision on power plant design (types of cycles etc.), corrosion and scaling, and operating geothermal power plants in competitive environment.  It will be held in Kizildere and Antalya .       The Course will be suitable for decision makers, private companies, banks, municipalities, new comers     to power plants, graduate students from universities. Minimal number for the course to proceed is 20 participants.  The Course will cost 250 US$, which includes attendance at the course, travel by bus from Izmir to Kizildere and Antalya, course text book and other written materials, two nights accommodation in first class hotel with breakfasts, two lunches, three common dinners, and two coffee breaks.

2.  INTEGRATED USE OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY (2-day Pre-conference course)

This Course will cover the possibilities and limitations of direct application of geothermal energy, its situation in the world, and its use for district heating, It will also cover greenhouse heating, industrial use, balnelogical applications, heat pumps and augmenting the demand. Economic comparison with other energy sources.  The course will start and be held in Izmir (Balçova), and will finish in Antalya . Course presenters will be John      Lund (District heating, Industrial uses), Kiril Popovski (Greenhouse heating, Economic comparisons), and Burkhard Sanner (Heat pumps, Balneological uses). The Course will cost 250 US$, which includes attendance at the course, travel by bus from Izmir to Balçova and Antalya, course text book and other written materials, two nights accommodation in first class hotel with breakfasts, two lunches,     three common dinners, and two coffee breaks.

3.  ENVIRONMENTAL ADVANTAGES OF GEOTHERMAL ENERGY (1-day Post Conference Course)

This Course will cover “Why do we have to protect environment ?”, sustainable development, Kyoto Protocol, Carbon emissions, comparison with other energy sources, advantage of geothermal resources, comparison to other sources, probable negative effects, subsidence, air pollution, thermal pollution, H2S, remedies, reinjection, public awareness.  The course will start and be held in Antalya . The Course will be suitable for staff and management of private companies, banks, municipalities, NGO’s, and university graduate students. Minimum number for the Course to operate is 15 participants.  It will cost 180 US$, which will cover attendance at the course, Course text book and other written materials, one night accommodation in first class hotel with breakfast, one lunch, one common dinner, and two coffee breaks.
