April 30 - May 3, 2005 (4 Days)

This trip leaves Antalya on the morning after the Congress (Saturday 30 April) and travels into the vast steppes of Anatolia which are the “bread basket” of Turkey .  It will arrive at the city of Konya for lunch, after which there will be a visit to Mevlana Museum which is the former lodge of the Whirling Dervishes, an Islamic sect noted for its spinning dances.  Dinner and overnight in Konya .  The next morning (Sunday 1 May) the trip travels on to Nevşehir and Ürgüp in Cappadoccia, a region famous for its unusual pointed rock formations.  After lunch there will be a visit to some of the underground cities where the local people sheltered from invaders.  Dinner and overnight in Ürgüp.  The following day (Monday 2 May) is devoted entirely to visiting the famous old cities and fairy chimneys of Cappadoccia. The trip will also visit an underground pottery factory in Avenos. Dinner and overnight in Ürgüp.  The next morning (Tuesday 3 May) the trip will first visit the tomb of Hacıbektaş Veli, the 13th century founder and spiritual leader of the Bektaşi order of dervishes, then travel to see geothermal heating systems in Kırşehir.  The trip will arrive in Ankara Esenboğa Airport in the late afternoon, then fly to Istanbul where the tour ends.
