« Solar Energy Pros and Cons Achieving and Maintaining Soft and Smooth Hands »
Nations and states are investing money in to sustainable wind power electricity farms situated across rolling plains and shallow ocean shelves. Alternative energy sources are variable by nature and so wind power electricity is just one part of a larger alternative energy picture.
Wind farms worldwide are looking to leaders in wind energy. The largest wind farm is currently planted in Texas in the United States and houses over 400 wind turbines. The farm produces enough energy yearly to power over 200,000 homes. Forward thinkers around the world have taken the lead and initiated the use of wind power in their backyards. Wind power electricity is produced on these private wind farms and then sold and fed into the public power grid. It should be made clear that wind power is not the sole solution to the energy crisis. It is one piece of a larger solution that must include additional energy sources like solar and the continued use of fossil fuel based energy.
The move towards wind powered electricity has been in the works for some time. Australia currently has 42 wind farms. The largest of the 42 produces over 230 MW of energy annually. European nations and those in the United Kingdom are making marked efforts to move toward energy independence through wind. Other countries investing in the new technology are the Philippines, Morocco and Brazil.
The major difference with wind power and gas or coal based power is in the funding and operation of the initiatives. Most wind farms are privately owned by entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. While the wind farm owners receive tax breaks for producing clean energy, the money generally has to come from a private source for start up and maintenance costs.
The impact that wind power on the world’s energy needs shouldn’t be minimized though. As a variable in the response to energy needs it plays a major part and can greatly alleviate dependence on fossil fuels, gradually minimizing their usage as new technologies are uncovered.
Many are making energy production personal with the use of small wind turbines. Rebates, tax, credits and low interest government loans are available in the United States to aid small wind turbine projects. Participants of these projects have been farms, hotels, homes and schools.
By embracing wind energy and other alternative energy sources on a micro scale, a powerful message is being sent to the government and utility companies. The people will not settle for high prices and destruction of the earth’s natural resources. By participating the public is ensuring that the move to alternative energy will be done in an environmentally and fiscally responsible way and that is a recipe for energy success.
